Ukraine opens embassy in Rwanda

Ukraine has opened a diplomatic mission in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, as a step forward in strengthening the bond between Ukraine and Rwanda.

In the opening ceremony on 18th April, the Permanent Secretary in Rwanda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Clementine Mukeka, said the official opening ceremony is not just a symbolic moment, but also a step forward in strengthening the bond between our countries.

“Rwanda values its relationship with Ukraine and looks forward to working together in the future,” Clementine Mukeka added.

Mr. Subkh Maksym Aliyovych, the Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa, says the inauguration of Ukraine’s Embassy in Kigali shows his country’s willingness to expand its relations and cooperation with Rwanda.

In January 2024, President Paul Kagame, who was in Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum, met with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

They discussed the ongoing situation in Ukraine and efforts to resolve the conflict.

Over the last two years, cooperation between Rwanda and Ukraine has been advancing.

Rwanda exported coffee, tea, and minerals to Ukraine, while Ukraine exported oil, beverages, and wheat flour to Rwanda. Trade between Rwanda and Ukraine was about $2.1 million in 2021.
