Rwandans enjoyed Boxing day with Akagera Rhino race

Akagera National Park and Kayonza district has partnered with Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) in preparing annual cycling competition named Akagera Rhino Race with the aim of celebrating the return of majestic rhinos in Akagera National Park and its conservation successes. 

This race brings together the community surrounding Akagera National Park and this year’s race was consisting a local race and a professional race. The local race covered 35 kilometers whereas professionnal race was somehow longer with 150 kilometers where they started from Rugende to Rwinkwavu while it was previously scheduled to start from BK Arena at Remera.

The race started at 09:00 a.m and ends at about 12 a.m. In professional women race, Ingabire Diane who plays for Canyon/SRAM Team ended in the 1st place, MWAMIKAZI Djazil in the 2nd and NTAKIRUTIMANA Martha in the 3rd place. 

For professional men race, MUHOZA Eric who plays for Team Amani wins the race, MANIZABAYO Eric in the 2nd and 3rd for TUYIZERE Hashim.

Peole from Eastern Province of Rwanda were happy of the race which continues to relate sports with tourism.

This was a big opportunity to Rwanda Cycling players who are rising their levels in preparing the coming competitions including Tour de Rwanda scheduled in 2024.
