President Paul Kagame has expressed his heartfelt solidarity with the people of Kenya and President William Ruto due to the ongoing mass flooding in Nairobi that has displaced and killed many people.

“My sincere condolences to you, my brother President William Ruto, and the people of Kenya for the families displaced and the lives lost in the ongoing mass flooding in Nairobi and other parts of the country,” he tweeted.

“Rwanda stands in solidarity with you and the country in this difficult time,” President Kagame added on X.

Since March, Kenya has been battered by above-average rainfall, which has been exacerbated by climate change and the effects of the El Nino weather pattern.

According to the government, at least 169 people throughout the country have been killed in floods and landslides caused by the heavy rains, while more than 185,000 have been displaced.

Nairobi has been among the worst affected, with tens of thousands of families made homeless, and the government has decided to postpone the beginning of the academic year.

Kenya’s government announced the deployment of the military, national police, coastguard, and the national youth service to enhance its emergency response efforts across the country.
