The Rwandan National Police, RNP, has announced that the Muhanga-Ngororero road is temporarily closed to traffic due to heavy rains.
On its official accounts, the RNP said, “We would like to inform the public that the road Muhanga-Ngororero is temporarily closed to traffic due to heavy rains that caused flooding at the Nyabarongo river.”
RNP advised the public to use the Kigali-Musanze-Mukamira-Ngororero road and assured that they will provide updates as the water levels go down.
Currently, the weather conditions are extremely wet. In recent days, the Rwanda Water Resources Board has alerted the general public, especially those living near rivers, to be aware of potential floods and landslides.
The rivers expected to cause landslides and flooding are Sebeya, Karambo, Nyabahanga, Kabirizi, Nyabarongo, Mwogo, Mukungwa, Rubyiro, and Cyagara.
