The governments of Rwanda and Cuba have signed cooperation agreements to exchange medical expertise, health education, scientific research, and biopharma development.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, during the working visit of the Rwandan Minister of Health, Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, to Cuba.

The agreement was signed by Minister Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana and his Cuban counterpart, José Angel Portal Miranda.

Cuba is well-known for its healthcare system, with over 100,000 specialized doctors. This country, with a population of 11 million, has seven doctors for every 1000 people, contributing to a life expectancy of 79.2 years.

In 2021, Cuba sent more than 30,000 doctors to provide medical assistance in nearly 60 countries worldwide. It is one of the countries that receive foreign medical students, with about 1,200 students in that year alone.

In September 2023, Rwanda and Cuba signed a cooperation agreement regarding the sharing of political knowledge and information between the two countries, as well as the waiver of visas for holders of foreign officials’ travel documents and government job applicants.
